The squirt Green team did a fantastic job this weekend in their very first tournament of the season. They went a perfect 4-0 to capture the 1st place title in the Cottage Grove Turkey Tournament! They played a very talented, well coached team in the Championship game. It was an exciting game to be part of and all the boys for both teams should be very proud of themselves. It was a great showing for the Cottage Grove teams this weekend. Hopefully this is just a start to a successful season for all the Cottage Grove teams. A very special thanks to Dawn Cordts for taking these great pictures during and after the game and also to Taylour's mom Kate, for the green laces! The boys looked and played sharp!

Squirt Green busted out early in the first game of the weekend. Opening the scoring against Rosemount. It's just too bad that's all they were able to muster up against an opponent that seemed to be running on all cylindars after that. Tough game for the boys taking it on the chin 7-1. They did bounce back in their 2nd game of the weekend against the home team Tartan. It took a while but they slowly started to show signs of getting back to their winning ways. It was a very close game and our boys ended up getting the 3-1 win. Sunday morning came early and they once again found themselves playing the other home Tartan team. It didn't seem to phase the boys though, they scored early and often and put the game away in the 1st period. By the end of the 2nd period they had built up the lead to 12-1 and that's exactly how they ended. Another successful weekend for the boys and they brought home more hardware to show off to their friends and family. Congrats boys!
The boys did another fantastic job in bringing home more hardware in Brainerd. We started off the tournament against Edina and ran into an extremely hot goalie and some great backcheckers. The team did take 12 penalties that didn't help but it was a great game non the less and Edina pulled off the narrow victory 4-3. Edina did go on to win it all, congrats! The second game against Hutchinson started off a little slow. At one point we were outshooting Hutchinson 25-4, yet we were down 3-0. Another great goaltending effort by the Hutchinson goalie. In the end, they boys came back and the shots finally started going in. We ended up outshooting Hutchinson 47-15 and won 6-3. In the consolation game we played a very good Brainerd team and once again found ourselves down 2-0 in the first 5 minutes of the game but the boys picked it up and started to shut Brainerd down by limiting them to only 1 shot in the 2nd and 3rd period combined. In doing so, they kept the pressure in the Brainerd offensive zone and prevailed 7-2. It was a great weekend and the boys should be very proud of themselves once again!
